News from Aurora, Oregon

* NW Aviation Conference and Trade Show coming to Puyallup, Washington February 23 & 24, Booth 229-231
If it is cold outside, it must be getting time for the first show of the new year! For the 5th year running, we will attend the show and help Northwest pilots get ready for the spring by showing off our latest versions of our software and products. Curt Anderson will host a few seminars to demonstrate Electronic Flight Bag capability made possible by ChartCase software running on a laptop or tablet computer in the cockpit. Also stop by the booth to see the new Fujitsu 1620 convertible notebook PC and take a look at it outside if you like. We look forward to seeing you this weekend!

* Use Virtual Test Prep to help sharpen your skills
You know the importance of keeping current and self-guided learning is one of the most convenient method available. Annually, our partners Aviation Supplies & Academics, Inc. (ASA) updates their content, keeping their materials on the leading edge of the myriad changes in our industry. Many sharp pilots already know these important changes are encapsulated in the popular ASA packages. Packaged into convenient DVD format for easy viewing on your DVD player, home entertainment system, or DVD-equipped PC, these educational programs run between 6 to 10 hours of top-quality, professionally produced video. FlightPrep sells ASA educational and test-preparation tools and many other offerings in our Ground School portion of the web site.

* New Customer Service Page centralizes valuable resources
We have a deep collection of information on our web site in the new and easy-to-use Customer Service page. You can find FAQs, Tech Tips, Paperless Flight and the Customer Center links all on the new page. We'll continue to add more links and capability. Please visit this new feature and if you have suggestions for other additions, drop us a line.

* FlightPrep Internet Flight Planner gets new Profile View
Now FlightPrep On-Line Flight Plan users have a new tool in their planning tool kit. We added Special Use Airspace, METAR-based weather conditions, and winds in the profile view. Originally developed for the Golden Eagle FlightPrep product, the graphical profile view makes seeing the weather conditions related to your flight a snap. This feature is available to all On-Line Planner subscribers. If you are not a member already, sign up now and see what is new!

* New Chart Products page shows new data subscriptions
We now offer chart and plate products in any possible combination! Both Golden Eagle FlightPrep
and ChartCase 2007 series software permit YOU TO CHOOSE your subscription to meet your exact needs. As part of our new Internet-based update services, FlightPrep offers coverage in multiple selections; for the entire country, either by VFR or IFR coverage, by regions, or right down to individual chart or approach book. Take a look at the new web page listing the data products catalog and add the missing picture to your planning and EFB data needs.

* FAA offers EFB Clarification
It is official!
The FAA has removed any concern about the legality of EFBs in the Part 91 cockpit. Offered as an extension to a number of prior advisories and "Job Aides" intended for field inspectors, Advisory Circular 91-78 covers the subject of Electronic Flight Bag. It defines the meaning of both an Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) and an Electronic Chart Display (ECD). ChartCase software performs BOTH of these functions. The FAA goes on to recommend that a secondary source of information be available to the pilot. Most FlightPrep software users accomplish this by loading their software on a second portable system. I do not have any paper charts or plates in my Cardinal. I use my LE1700 "large format" Motion Computing tablet and I personally carry an old laptop "just in case." Ross flies an Astra. They carry 2 EFBs; a P1620 and a LS800 with WxWorx BT weather receiver.

Ram LS800 mounts with integrated cooling fans are in stock. A USB cable plugs into the tablet to run a small fan to force cooling air into your tablet. This may help your system if it seems to run overly warm. Options exist for the LE1600 too. Call Audrie @ (503) 678-4360 for more information.
