* Microsoft
TM Vista
TM update #2
Microsoft changed their policy
regarding the WINHLP32.EXE distribution and their new Vista
operating system.
Now available from their website, you can download this
important utility program fixing Help System function for
software released "Pre-Vista."
History: Some clients relayed a
problem with Windows Vista when using their FlightPrep
products. Microsoft eliminated a long-term Help system standard
used by many software vendors when they removed WINHLP32.EXE
from Vista. This caused our Help feature to fail.
* Golden Eagle Plus Special sold out.
We are out of stock on the special announced in the last
newsletter.
Thank you for the response.
Welcome aboard to our 200 newest customers!
* FlightPrep expands our trade show
schedule!
One of the biggest rewards of our business is meeting
existing customers. We enjoy visits from both customers and
prospective customers at our office in Oregon. Sometimes a
road-trip is the best way to connect with you so we are
expanding our ability to travel to more of the aviation
tradeshows. Look for us at the following events:
* Sun N Fun Forum Schedules; Mark your

Thursday, April 19th and again at 10:00 a.m. Sunday, April 22nd.

* Internet Download
Feature Update
Initial testing of the
Internet download feature presented us the opportunity to more
closely integrate the delivery mechanism directly into the
program. We're taking advantage of this feedback from our
testers to build this capability into the new software. After
our engineers complete their coding, we'll get this revision to the Beta
Release to our testers next week.
We also made a few changes to permit more flexibility in data
formats. This will require a new Core Data Disc for
successful operation. A new benefit of the program
changes allow you to set file locations where you store your flight plans and
track files in the "My Documents" folder of your computer. This
will make it easier to keep your data with all your other
documents. You will also enjoy easy access to our new User Manual
because we moved it to the Help system. This and many more
changes are coming soon. Be sure to see us at Sun N Fun for the
Grand Release.
* XMLink program update
WxWorx released an update to their XMLink program. The
latest
release of ChartCase included this update. The update
contains provisions for future data elements broadcast from the
satellite data stream. There should be no impact to your normal
software operation. You can check for the successful
installation from the XMLink [Help] [About} and look for version
1.41.

* Motion Computing Announces the
new LE1700 tablet
Slated for availability within 2 - 3 weeks,
the new LE1700
is designed for Windows Vista with more processing power, more
RAM capacity, and an upgraded display adapter. FlightPrep's evaluation model is on
the way. We'll have real-world experience to relate to you
soon! Plan to see the new tablet at
our booth during Sun N Fun.
Motion
Computing released news Monday of their newest tablet product.
Powered by either the Intel Core 2 Duo -or- Core Solo
processors, the LE1700 should be faster than the current LE1600
model. The new tablet will support up to 4GB RAM, up from the
1.5GB maximum of the LE1600. A variety of display options are
now available, but we still recommend the View Anywhere screen
at 1024 x 768 as found on the previous model. A brand
new feature is built-in wireless cell modem providing "anywhere
connectivity", permitting you to get updated weather briefings
just about anywhere you can get a cell phone signal. With an eye
towards user flexibility, Motion Computing Technical Support can
activate the cell modem device with your choice of cell
carriers.
* Samsung Q1-SSDs in stock for
immediate shipment
We now have Q1-SSDs in stock. These high altitude units are
in High-demand! To get one headed your way, call our Sales staff
now at (503) 678-4360.

Demo System available - SAVE $400!
We have only 1 LE 1600 Demo tablet available. This tablet was barely
used at the last trade show and looks like new. It is configured with 1 GB RAM, 30GB

freshly set up and ready to ship or we can add our turn-key
setup service to preinstall FlightPrep software. This tablet
retails for almost $2400 and we are offering it for only $1999.

* Ram LS800 mounts with integrated cooling fans are
in stock. A USB cable plugs into the tablet to run a small fan
to force cooling air into your tablet. This may help your system
if it seems to run overly warm. Options exist for the LE1600 too.
Call Audrie or Rick @ (503) 678-4360 for more information.
* Ram Mounts also
shipped us our first lot of
leg mount platform bases for all their tablets.
These mounts permit you to attach your tablet to a familiar
location found in every cockpit. Same high quality and same great low prices
as all the Ram products.

Aviation News Bits |

We enjoy the timely reporting by the
General Aviation NewsTM staff. FlightPrepTM
highlights lead stories that impact aviation and you. Here are
our current picks:
(Editor's note:
I know I've read a lot lately about the impending User Fee crisis. A
recent article helped bring the timing of this year's issue to
light. In 2007, both FAA reauthorization AND Aviation Trust Fund
Authorization are due for approval. This is an "opportunity" to
make dramatic changes in both collection and disbursements of
aviation moneys. Regardless if you choose to be active or
passive, we encourage you to be fully aware of the issues. JB)
User fees: it's time to get into this fight
If you don't think user fees are the most serious among current
threats to general aviation, listen to Rep. Sam Graves (R-Mo).
Relief in sight for vintage aircraft owners: Proposal would
release data needed to maintain airworthiness
One of
the challenges of owning a vintage aircraft is getting the
information needed to do required maintenance. This is
especially true of so-called "orphaned" aircraft — those no
longer in production or supported by a factory.
From basket case to better-than-new: Fantasy of Flight's
restorers put old birds back in the air
For those
unaware, the world's largest private collection of more than 40
rare and vintage aircraft resides at the Fantasy of Flight
Museum midway between Tampa and Orlando, Fla. Located on 300
acres of prime real estate, it includes a private airstrip, a
lake, three display hangars, storage and restoration buildings.
And then there were 10...As oil refineries stop producing avgas,
what's the future hold for us?
As oil
refineries stop producing avgas, what's the future hold for us?
The Littlest Warbird: Flying the Air Trooper
Paine
Field in Everett, Wash., is the birthplace of giants, hosting
the final assembly halls for the Boeing 747, 767, and 777, soon
to be joined by the 787. Just down the flightline is a hangar
complex housing Jim Fernandez's personal Aladdin's cave of small
airplanes. A career flying DC-10s and 747s for Northwest
Airlines gave him the opportunity to indulge his passion for
interesting flying machines.
Besides the more prosaic Van's RV-4, Twin Comanche and Lake
Amphibian housed in his hangar, Fernandez has some truly unique
pieces, including the prototypes of the Cosmic Wind racer
(Little Tony) and the Temco Buckaroo, as well as the Sky Skeeter,
today labeled as the Lockheed Air Trooper.
March 2005 Accident Reports
These March 2005 accident reports are provided by the National
Transportation Safety Board. Published as an educational tool,
they are intended to help pilots learn from the misfortunes of
others. |
