News from Aurora, Oregon.
* We're heading to AOPA Expo to see you!
FlightPrep travel plans include the last major trade show to make it easier to see our products and give you "hands-on" access to the tablet computers you've read about in this newsletter. Come see us at The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) Conference in Palm Springs, CA November 9 - 11 in Booth # 912.

* National Business Aviation Association conference a hit!
Kyle, Rick and Ross returned from Florida with tales of record attendance. We enjoyed the opportunity to meet many new and returning customers on the show floor. We announced our new ChartBook packages intended for the busy pilot (more details below) as well as our new reseller partnerships with both Advanced Data Research (ADR) and Paperless Cockpit systems. Both of these high-line computer vendors offer our ChartCase Professional Electronic Flight Bag software systems integrated with their hardware systems into complete, ready-to-fly packages. Some of our customers are looking to obtain unique package offerings and we are proud ADR and Paperless Cockpit want to offer our award-winning solutions.

Calvin Azarowicz with SouthEastern Freight Lines, Inc. of West Columbia, SC is the lucky winner of our drawing. He crews on a Citation 2 and wins a one year subscription to FlightPrep Internet Flight Planner. You will receive your package shortly. Congratulations Calvin!

* ChartBook Packages deliver the best of everything we have to offer
More and more often we hear from pilots who are looking for a comprehensive package to meet their flying needs. Most frequently, these customers require a complete solution for their own flying or for their entire flight department. FlightPrep recognized this need and we created our new ChartBook series of complete EFB solutions. The M5000 series is based upon our popular Motion Computing LS800 tablet systems. We assembled the most demanded options into a single product, ChartBook. The M5000 series is available in both single seat and Captain/ F.O. configurations. Check out our web page to learn more about ChartBook.

* Solid State tablet makes its debut at FlightPrep!
FlightPrep now has the long-awaited solid state equipped tablet that removes altitude limitations! Working with a new distributor, FlightPrep now offers the Samsung Q1 with SSD. Our initial tests have shown the tablet runs ChartCase software up to 40% faster than with a traditional hard disc. Now pilots flying un-pressurized equipment in the mid-teens up to the flight levels can fully utilize their tablets without the worry of possible hard drive failures.

We offer the Samsung Q1 equipped with touch-screen display as the platform for our Top-Pick ChartCase Professional software. We included in the package our new BT-338 Bluetooth GPS with an amazing 12 -17 hours of battery life. Also included is the popular WxWorx Bluetooth Weather receiver as well as our 2 way power adapter that feeds both the Samsung tablet and the WxWorx receiver in flight

Solve the problem of paper in the cockpit at any altitude with our new ChartCase Q1-SSD Platinum package. See the web site for all the details and to place your order. Please note: due to anticipated demand there may be a delivery delay in shipping your package so we recommend you call soon!

ChartCase ExpressTM & ChartCase Pro 2006TM

At Sun N Fun 2006, we heard from many pilots wanting a simpler software package dedicated to use in the cockpit. These pilots said they wanted an application to give them all the missing features on the panel-mounted avionics systems; things like full screen approach plates and VFR/ IFR charts, and weather display. They asked for a simple user interface that they could use to enter "Direct-To" routings. Our engineering staff recognized these pilots just wanted the InFlight interface of our ChartCase Pro software package.

FlightPrep software engineering staff came up with a clever solution. They modified the popular ChartCase Professional software (top-rated by Aviation Consumer) and kept all the features of the InFlight user interface. The engineers streamlined the program and removed the desktop flight planning features. When pilots start the new ChartCase Express program, it immediately brings up the InFlight interface to display clear and crisp charts, maps, and plates. The GPS receiver inputs current position information. The XM/Wx weather data overlays the Weather screen automatically.

The InFlight screen design came directly from pilot input. That makes ChartCase Express a natural fit for the cockpit unlike most desktop Windows programs squeezed into the airplane. AOPA editor Julie Boatman reviewed the ChartCase InFlight interface in the July 2006 issue of AOPA Pilot magazine. Boatman writes, "basic functions are easy to access: Flight-plan creation and use were straightforward and the tabs made information logical to find... 'Easy to read, large, easy to scroll' was one tester's comment."

When the computer is configured to start ChartCase Express automatically on boot-up, it is similar to switching on a panel-mounted avionics device; the GPS and weather receivers are automatically connected and begin displaying current position and weather data shortly after the airplane is rolled out of the hanger.

With almost all the features of ChartCase Pro's InFlight mode (no high level IFR charts) Express meets the requirements we heard loud and clear. The ChartCase Express program is available with updates services of 3, 6, and 13 times a year offering flexibility in currency and pricing to meet every pilot's needs.

FlightPrep introduces ChartCase Express for sale priced beginning at $295.00.

Note to ChartCase EFB subscribers:
Although we have discontinued selling ChartCase EFB, we will continue to support and offer data updates to your program. We will also continue to sell update subscriptions for your software. Prices for the update services should remain at the same level. If you would like to exchange/ upgrade your software license for the ChartCase Express service, just call our Sales staff for more details.

Jabiru's smallest LSA receives certification
Jabiru USA's smallest Light Sport Aircraft, the Calypso, has earned LSA certification. The Calypso-SP (Sport Pilot) can cruise at 100 knots on 85 hp, provided by a four-cylinder, aircooled, direct-drive Jabiru 2200 engine, which runs on either 100LL or 91-octane auto gas, Jabiru officials said. With full fuel, the LSA accommodates a 400-pound additional payload. Price is $69,900, which includes three hours flight instruction/checkout in their new Calypso.

GAN medical columnist dies in air show crash
Dr. Guy Baldwin, General Aviation News' medical columnist, died Oct. 4 during an afternoon performance at the Tucumcari Air Show at the Tucumcari Municipal Airport (TCC) in New Mexico. Baldwin, 60, from Tulsa, Okla., was an Aviation Medical Examiner and an accomplished aerobatics pilot. He often performed in air shows in his Extra 300L.

NTSB issues safety alert
The NTSB recently issued a safety alert to pilots warning them to actively maintain awareness of severe weather along their entire route of flight. NTSB officials say they have identified several accidents in which in-flight encounters with severe weather were the cause or contributed to accidents. All the accidents involved aircraft operating under instrument flight rules (IFR) and in contact with air traffic controllers. Investigations revealed that pilots were either not advised about areas of severe weather or were given incomplete information. The primary job of ATC is to keep IFR aircraft separated, NTSB officials note. When their workload permits, controllers also are required to provide additional services such as weather advisories, and, upon pilot request, suggested headings to avoid radar-displayed precipitation.

October 2004 Accident Reports
These October 2004 Accident Reports are provided by the National Transportation Safety Board. Published as an educational tool, they are intended to help pilots learn from the misfortunes of others.
