Going to an air show like Oshkosh AirVenture 2005 gives us the opportunity to meet many of our customers.  It also gives us the chance to speak with pilots who use the event to learn about what is new with their favorite products and services as well as the industry overall.  In these conversations, we try to listen and learn what is important to you as we answer your questions about what's changed in aviation software.  One topic we heard loud and clear is confusion on what products and features are available from aviation software providers and what makes them different.  We will work through this newsletter to answer common questions we heard during the show.  If you have a topic you'd like us to handle, send me a message and I'll do my best to cover it in a coming edition of the FlightPrep Insider.

We saw many vendors all claiming that they offered an EFB application.  Many of you spoke with us to clarify what makes a software application perform the duties required of a true EFB.  This week's Roger's Turn article focuses on "Just What is an EFB?".  If you didn't visit us at Oshkosh this summer, please read Roger's Turn for his take on some of the history and the required features to truly fit into the EFB class application.

* Many of you are now taking advantage of the new XM/WX in-cockpit weather feature in ChartCase Professional 2.5. I've answered some Technical Support questions and helped explain some of the details of how the new feature works. We are working to put our knowledge into an improved Help system coming soon.  Watch for it in the 2nd September update!

* ChartCase Premium offers you options for both the Motion Computing LE1600 and LS800 systems as well as a variety of accessories and options including the Garmin GPS-10 and WxWorx receivers. We've shipped many LE1600s to our customers. We are already getting feedback that it was worth the wait for the new systems. We can now ship a fully tested LE1600 package to you in as little as 2 business days after we get your order. Call now to get your package ready for your next trip.

* We are taking pre-orders for the newest LS800 system. We recommend the View Anywhere display upgrade to optimize performance in bright conditions. This option becomes available in September. Place your pre-order now to ensure you get one of the first units to ship!.

* We have always used CSC DUATS for Internet-based weather briefing purposes. They provide a no-cost weather briefing service for pilots. It makes good sense to use their services during your flight planning phase. Now, we've added support for in-cockpit weather provided by XM/WX over WxWorx receivers where Internet access is not possible or practical. Using their satellite down-link, you get the same capability in the cockpit to see the weather developing around you using their subscription service.

As always, if you have any questions or if we can help you, drop us a line or give us a call. Our contact info is at the bottom of this message. Thanks for reading our newsletter! Your editor, John Bouyea
