News from Aurora, Oregon.
*
We have several new features to show you at
Oshkosh AirVenture 2005.
The biggest news is our WxWorx receiver sales and support. We will announce other exciting new features
at the AirVenture show, but it is too early to tip our hand right now!
*
We have always used CSC DUATS
for Internet-based weather briefing purposes. They provide a no-cost
weather briefing service for pilots. It makes good sense to use their
services during your flight planning phase. Now, we've added
support for in-cockpit weather provided by XM/WX over
WxWorx receivers
where Internet access is not possible or practical. Using their
satellite down-link, you get the same capability in the cockpit to see
the weather developing around you using their
subscription service.
* We are introducing a new pricing structure at AirVenture as
well. Over the last year, we added IFR & VFR charts, our moving map and moving moving approach plates
features. Since we added so many new capabilities there will be a price increase
effective July 25th, 2005. When you order before the price
increase, you lock in that price as your annual renewal rate.
Our unique Customer-Reward program permits you to receive all the new features
we add to your product at no additional cost along with bug
fixes and minor enhancements to improve usability. To lock in your
savings, we recommend you
order now.
* The Northwest Aviation Fly-In is
July 6-10 next week. Come see
us in the CSC DUATS booth where we'll be working with our partners in
aviation weather and briefing services. Visit the
Northwest EAA Fly-In web site to
check out the details for events and the CSC booth location.
* We simplified our software version numbering scheme. Starting
the next release, you'll see version 2.1. The version will
increase each update because we're always doing SOMETHING to improve the
software.
*
ChartCase
Premium offers the
Motion Computing
LE1600 system as well as a variety of accessories and options
including the WxWorx receiver. We've already shipped many LE1600s to anxious
customers. We are already getting feedback that it was worth the
wait for the new systems. We typically ship to you 2 weeks from the time
we get your order. Call now to ensure your
package is ready when you are.
* Since pilots have different needs, we
offer different solutions. The web-based Online planner works great for
people who frequently use a number of different computers. Other pilots
usually operate their own portable computer and find ChartCase
Professional gives them all the flexibility and power to plan anyplace. You need more than a "One-size-fits-all
solution" and FlightPrep is proud to offer both options. Check out
our
Comparison Chart for more details.
As always, if you have any questions or if we can help you, drop us a
line or give us a call. Our contact info is at the bottom of this
message. Thanks for reading our newsletter! Your editor, John Bouyea

My Turn by Roger Stenbock CFII
J.D. |

In this issue I look at the features, benefits and TCO (Total Cost of
Ownership) of certain panel mounted and portable avionics solutions,
sometimes referred to as EFB (Electronic Flight Bags) found in the TAA
(Technically Advanced Aircraft).
One thing is for certain, pilots love the benefits of the increased
capability and safety that this new avionics technology offers. They
appreciate the positional awareness that moving map displays provide,
the vast amount of aviation information available, such as found in the
electronic Airport Facility Directory, the reduction and or elimination
of paper charts and in some instances, the weather data provide by some
of the more advanced avionics. But, they don’t like the high cost of
ownership many of theses systems impose.
