Installing the program

To install the product, insert the CD into your system.
It should auto-start the installation.

You may accept all the installation
defaults
-
When the installation completes, launch the program from
the GoldenEagle icon on your desktop or from the Start Programs GoldenEagle
menu command.
If the program does not auto-start, use Windows
Explorer to open your CD Rom drive and double-click the Setup.Exe program.
Program Registration
The first time you launch the program, a registration form
collects information to help keep your program current.

Please complete the registration form.
Ensure the email address you provide permits you to receive an email from us containing your activation key.
Click Register and
you will immediately receive a confirmation email with a link
to click to activate the program.
Now, check your email for our registration message.
Open the Registration email and click the
included link to complete the registration process.
When you click the link, we activate your
software on a web page.
Once you see the message that your activation is complete, close your
browser.
We will email you a copy of the activation code for future reference.
Program registration and software activation are
now complete.
If you attempted to register your GoldenEagle FlightPrep
software and did not receive any emails from FlightPrep;

- verify you can receive email from
"support@flightprep.com"
-
- check your email "SPAM" folder. Some ISPs identify
your registration emails as SPAM. Speak with your ISP's Technical Support group
for their instructions on how to fix this issue.
Initial setup
To customize your program you need to
confirm your pilot information, configure your DUATS access preference, and
optionally, define an aircraft.
The Pilot Information setup is reached by the
menu option Edit Pilot. If you completed the Registration function,
portions of this form will be pre-filled for you.
Be sure to insert your DUATS access code and
password.
Optionally, you may specify your FlightPrep.Com
account data to automate that login.
Press Ok to save your work.
DUATS access preference is reached by Edit
Setup.

Specify Internet or Dial-Up to set your
connection method to access DUATS.
[If you choose Dial-Up, confirm your modem
device. Satellite users should pick Internet.]
Set your local time zone.
Press
to save your work.
[Optional] You can modify an existing aircraft or
create your own from scratch.
Aircraft definition is reached by the
Edit Aircraft menu option.

If you wish to modify a generic
model, highlight the entry you wish to change and click Edit
Be sure you set your Registration "N-number."
Use the Performance tab to confirm climb, cruise and descent values.
To create a new model click
and complete
filling out both pages.
Press
to save your work.
You have completed the initial setup steps.
First Flight Planning Session

Click on the Chart tab in the upper left
corner of the main display area

In the Dept box enter your departure
point as either the location name (Aurora) or the facility identifier (UAO)

In the Dest box enter your destination
as either the location name (Arlington) or the facility identifier (AWO)

In the Routing list box select your
preferred routing method
-
Press the Properties button to
confirm your choice of pilot, aircraft, departure time, altitude for cruise,
and fuel on board. Press Ok to save your work.

Press the Plan button to plan your
flight.
First DUATS Weather Briefing
Now that the route is created, click on the
Briefing tab to access text based weather briefing sessions.

In the Briefing list window, click
on Standard and click the Add button
-
Verify the data has correctly transferred from
the flight you planned in the Chart tab display appears.

Specify your preference of
Briefing and Advisories . Press Ok to save your work. Notice this briefing
command is transferred to the Pending Commands list.

Press Connect to send this briefing request
to DUATS. The system will automatically log you into DUATS making your
request then capture all the briefing and automatically
disconnect from the DUATS service.

The captured briefing appears in the Briefing
display window. The briefing session also appears in the Weather list box to the left side of the display area for future use.

Click on the briefing command in the
Pending list and click Remove to delete the request from future
connections list.

[Optional] You may wish to edit or print
this briefing. Press the Text tool button above the upper
left corner of the briefing text display window to start your text editing
program. Here you may review the briefing, edit, as well as print the
text briefing.
First DUATS Weather Charts Download
Now that the route is created, click on the
Weather Charts tab to access graphic charts.

In the Graphics Commands list window, click
on Contiguous 48 WX and click the Add button
-
Pick a set of weather charts
you wish to download or click Select All to choose all charts. Press Ok to save
your work. Notice this graphic command is transferred to the Pending
Commands list. -
Press Connect to send
this graphic command request to DUATS. The system will automatically log you
into DUATS, make your request, receive and capture all the graphic charts
and
disconnect from the DUATS service. -
When the Session window appears,
click the Weather Charts button to switch back to the Weather Charts display
tab. -
The captured charts appear in the
Weather Charts list box to the left side of the display area. -
In the Weather Charts list, click on the
+
symbol to the left of the date and time entry to expand the lists of available
charts. Click on any chart name in the list to view the image. You
may click on the Expand icon to maximize the chart image in the display
area. Note: when charts are expanded you may notice projection errors. -
Click on the graphics command in the
Pending Commands list and click Remove to delete the request from future
connections list. -
[Optional] You may wish to print these
charts. Click on the chart image in the display area. Then, pull
down the File Print menu option. The system will format the image for
printing.
First Report Output
Now that the you created a route and received a
weather briefing, click on the Reports tab to view different reports listing
your flight details. All reports are generated fur use with a PDF viewer
like Adobe Reader .

Press the Flight Log button to generate a
waypoint-by-waypoint kneeboard-type flight log.

Press the Flight Plan button to generate a
FAA Flight Plan suitable for filing with ATC or FSS.

Press the Trip Kit button to choose the
Flight Log, Flight Plan, Overview, or Strip maps. Press the Ok button
to generate the report.

[Optional} All reports may be printed.
Press the Printer icon above the report display widow to print your reports.
Saving your work
If you wish to save your flight plan, use the
File Save menu option to save your flight planning session. If you do
use this option for later use, remember you must receive a new weather briefing
using the steps listed above.

Use the program as much as you can to become
more familiar with the options and functions

Make extensive use of the Help
Contents
feature. Every function is explained in detail in the Help system.
Several users have printed the entire Help system to have as a paper document
to make notes as they experiment with different features.
