Transferring data from one PC to another.
The procedure works for V5 systems OR V6 systems; V5 and V6 files are incompatible!
Here is what you do to move charts, data and/ or plates from one system to
another successfully. (Assumptions: Windows XP, Hidden Files and Folders
have been exposed through Folder Options in Control Panel,
Desktop refers to the unit with the internet connection and Tablet refers to the unit without internet)
If you are using MS Vista, please read the program directories that say MS Vista. For instructions on viewing folders that you system may have hidden please see:
Hidden Files
- When your Desktop states that there is an update
available, download the data and the software will tell you when the download is
complete.
- Restart the software on the desktop and select to [Apply] to post the updates.
- After you apply the updates (and are not shown further reminders
that you have additional data to download) close the FlightPrep program.
- Insert Portable media into the Desktop
- Start the Windows Explorer (aka Explore "My Computer") and navigate to
the
folder: "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\FlightPrep"
- Copy the "NData" folder onto the Portable Media device. (This takes approximately 5.2 GB)
(If you are installing -not updating a new machine, also copy the "Supplemental" folder
onto the Portable media.)
- Once the copy is complete, safely remove the Portable media. You are
finished with the Desktop PC.
- Ensure that there are no FlightPrep programs running on the Tablet.
- Insert the device into the Tablet and open the content of the Portable
media on the tablet.
- Make a copy of the Portable media NData folder (you made from the Desktop) into
Tablet's "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\FlightPrep"
folder; select
[Yes] when the Tablet asks you if you would like to replace the existing NData
folder.
(If you also took the Supplemental folder, copy it to the new machine too.)
- When the copy is completed, safely remove the Portable media.
- Start your FlightPrep software on the Tablet PC.
- Confirm the desired data exists.
- You are done!
Windows Vista and Windows 7 users: replace the folder location shown
above with "C:\ProgramData\FlightPrep\NData"
